Duo Receives Big 12 Monthly Honors

FORT WORTH, TexasCarley Barnett and Kari Hancock were honored Wednesday as the March Big 12 Riders of the Month in their respective disciplines.

Carley Barnett is the Big 12’s Rider of the Month for Equitation over Fences. This is the first Rider of the Month accolade for the junior, a Pilot Point, Texas native. She posted an impressive 3-0 in the month of March, earning the MOP accolade at the Big 12 Equestrian Championship for Fences after winning both her points on the weekend. She averaged a score of 83.5 and won by an average of 15 points. She hit a new season-high score against OSU in the Big 12 Championship, earning an 87 and an 88 from the judges for a combined score of 176, her previous high being an 84.

Senior Kari Hancock earns the Rider of the Month accolade for Equitation on the Flat, her third time this year in her discipline. The Alaska native went 3-0 in the month of March, averaging a score of 81 and winning her points by an impressive average of 16 points against her opponents. She gained a new high score at the Big 12 Championship against Baylor where she earned a score of 90 and 77 for a total of 167. Her score of 90 beats her previous high of 87. She was named to the All-Big 12 Team for Flat and was the MOP of the Big 12 Championship in Flat after winning both her points on the weekend.
