FORT WORTH, Texas - The National Collegiate Equestrian Association honored TCU Thursday as having five of the top-10 horses in collegiate equestrian.
In all, the Horned Frogs were the only school in the entire nation to have two horses named No. 1 overall in their respective disciplines. Three out of the five honored brought home top-5 accolades, while Matt became the first two-time All-America horse in program history.
Earning accolades in Equitation over Fences were JC and Rudy, respectively. JC closed out the year as the No. 1 ranked horse in Fences and was donated by the Alexander family. Rudy, who finished No. 10 overall, was donated by Fleur de Lis Farm.
On the Western side, Matt earned No. 1 honors in Horsemanship, while Flash 2 and Shy received accolades in Reining. Matt was donated by Renee Howes, while Flash 2 finished No. 4 overall and was donated by Linda Isola. Shy ranked No. 6 in the NCEA and was donated by Andrea McGhee.
In the past two years, the Frogs have now had nine horses garner All-America recognition by the NCEA. All horses selected were nominated by the opposing schools at each meet and have shown at least three times during the regular season.
