April 25, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU equestrian program recently handed out its end of the year awards at its yearly banquet.

Molly Peddicord and Chantz Stewart earned MVP honors in Hunt Seat and Western, respectively. The duo, who earned all-conference accolades, were both NCEA First-Team All-America honorees and were named the Big 12 Rider of the Year in their respective disciplines. Peddicord put the finishing touches on a dynamic season that saw her claim two All-America certificates and record a 15-3 overall record in Equitation over Fences with six MOP honors. Stewart was just as impressive, closing out one of the most successful careers in school history with a 15-3 overall record, including a 5-1 mark in league play in Reining.

Senior Erin Gillette and sophomore Marisa Malevitis were honored this past weekend with the prestigious Coaches Award. Gillette claimed All-Championship accolades after going undefeated on the final day of competition at the National Championships. Against Georgia, the senior scored a school record 161 in Horsemanship. When it was all said and done, Gillette went 5-1 in post-season play en route to scoring nine victories on the year. Malevitis played a key part in TCU making NCEA history by becoming the lowest seed ever to advance to the finals under the current format. On the season, the sophomore competed in four meets for the Frogs, claiming one victory.

Newcomer Meloney Morris claimed Rookie Award accolades over the weekend after competing in 18 meets this season. Morris closed out the 2015-16 season with a bang as she went undefeated in Reining on the final day of the championships to bring her post-season record to 4-2 overall. The Tennessee native garnered 10 victories on the season with one MOP.

Rounding out TCU’s award winners were Marah Huston and Mady Fithian who both claimed the Sportsmanship Award. Huston came on late in the season to record four victories in Horsemanship, while Fithian went 2-1 in league play in Equitation on the Flat en route to posting three victories in the discipline.
