Horned Frogs Sign Connecticut Standout Hamel
May 7, 2012
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU Hunt Seat head coach Logan Fiorentino announced the signing of Kate Hamel Monday.
"I'm very excited to announce that Kate Hamel has signed with TCU," said Fiorentino. "She brings a wealth of experience competing at the top shows in the country as well as fantastic academics. She has qualified and competed at the USEF Medal Finals and the ASPCA Maclay Finals. Her experience competing at this level will help her transition into the NCEA collegiate format. I'm excited and looking forward to Kate contributing to the TCU community."
Hamel, who hails from Avon, Conn., will don the Purple and White next fall after four years at Avon High School. The 2011 USEF Medal National Qualifier will bring a wealth of experience and success with her to Fort Worth after placing in the top 36 at the prestigious 2011 Maclay Finals. Hamel, who was an ASPCA Maclay National Qualifier, earned seventh-place honors at both the New England Equitation Championships and Connecticut Hunter Jumper Association Finals, respectively. She also qualified for the 2010 Interscholastic Equestrian Association Nationals in Equitation on the Flat, while earning seventh-place accolades in the Junior Medal round at the 2009 CHJA Finals.
TCU closed its 2011-12 season in Western with a 6-11 record, while the Hunt Seat squad ended 6-6-2 overall. In all, the Western squad defeated No. 6 Kansas State and No. 7 Baylor en route to a sixth-place finish at nationals and were the only double-digit seed to advance to the final day of competition in Waco.
