FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU director of intercollegiate athletics Chris Del Conte has announced the hiring of Haley Schoolfield as its director of equestrian.

Schoolfield, head equestrian coach at SMU the last four years, will oversee the Horned Frogs' Hunt Seat and Western disciplines.

Prior to taking over the SMU program, Schoolfield was an assistant coach for two years (2007-09) at TCU. She was in charge of the Hunt Seat division.

"We're very excited to have Haley returning to the TCU family," Del Conte said. "Haley is a perfect fit in this new position to oversee our equestrian program. When she began her coaching career with us, we were a new program and she was very instrumental in our immediate success. Under Haley's leadership, we look forward to continuing the tremendous momentum we have in equestrian."

In Schoolfield's first year at TCU, which marked just the second year of the equestrian program, the Horned Frogs won the 2008 Western national championship. TCU's Western squad was also the 2009 national runner-up.

A native of Willis, Texas, Schoolfield is a 2002 Texas A&M graduate with a bachelor's degree in agricultural development with an animal science emphasis.

A four-year letterwinner for the Aggies, Schoolfield competed in the English division. She was a team captain her senior year and won the Open Flat at the 2001 California Spring Classic. Schoolfield has trained through the years with some of the industry greats, including Peter Pletcher, Ginger Black and Ann Kurszinski. She also earned her USEF `r' judges card in 2011.

Prior to entering the coaching field, Schoolfield worked for Sienna Stables in Houston as the Senior Hunter/Jumper trainer. While at Sienna, she continued to compete on the "A" show level and won numerous local, state and national awards, including a Perpetual Award for the Low Hunter Division in 2007.

Outside of collegiate competition, Schoolfield won the 2000 SJHJA championship in Adult Hunter, Adult Equitation and Schooling Hunter.

Schoolfield and her husband, Clay, were married in December 2008.
