Preview: TCU at SMU

FORT WORTH, Texas – No. 6 TCU equestrian travels to Dallas to take on the No. 8 SMU Mustangs at Dallas Equestrian Center on Friday.

Last Time Out
TCU is coming into the meet at SMU after a 14-4 win in a split-meet between Texas Tech and NCTC. Four newcomers, Adrianna Adams (Reining), Cydney Benes (Horsemanship), Janelle Henningsen (Flat), and Raegan Rast (Fences) all earned their point for the Frogs on their way to earning the MOP title for their rides. The Frogs remained at No. 6 in the NCEA polls for week two.

The Series
The Frogs top the Mustangs in the all-time series, 8-5. The last time the two teams met was at the NCEA National Championship, where TCU downed the Mustangs 8-7 in the first round to advance to the quarterfinals.

Scouting TCU
In Hunt Seat, expect to see four familiar faces and two new ones in Fences, as well as five familiar faces and one new one in Flat.

In Equitation over Fences, seniors Jayme Omand and Carley Barnett begin their senior campaigns on Friday against the Mustangs after being named Big 12 Fences Rider of the Year and MOP of the Championship in Fences, respectively. Mady Fithian will start her senior season in Fences in exhibition. Patty Gill and Raegan Rast continue their young season, Rast earning her first MOP against Texas Tech, while newcomer Alex Beneson rides for the first time for the Frogs.

In Equitation on the Flat, Omand and Barnett will begin their senior season in Flat, along with Fithian continuing her strong start in exhibition. Gill continues her season as Misty Redd begins hers on the Flat. Newcomer Beneson will also ride on the Flat in Exhibition.

On the Western side, in Horsemanship, expect to see Cydney Benes ride again after her MOP against NCTC, along with Laska Anderson, Jamie Cook, Marah Huston and Josie Mootz all starting their respective seasons.

In Reining, Josie Ferrante, Elena Hurd and Adrianna Adams return to the saddle after Adams’ MOP performance against NCTC, while Carly Lombard and Claire Dittrich start their respective seasons.
