TCU in Title Contention in Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico -- Kortnie Maxoutopoulis, making her TCU debut, carded an even-par 72 and is tied for second individually to lead the Horned Frogs into a tie for second in the team standings after Sunday's opening round of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic.

Maxoutopoulis is a transfer from Rutgers, where she won two tournaments and was an All-Big East selection as a freshman last year.

A Pleasanton, Calif., native, Maxoutopoulis shot par on 15 holes and birdied two others. She was 2 under over her final 16 holes. Maxoutopoulis is tied for second with Auburn's Carlie Yadloczky, just two strokes off the pace set by Emily Tubert of Arkansas.

At 5-over 293, the Horned Frogs are tied for second with No. 6 Alabama. No. 12 Arkansas leads with a 291. The 15-team field features 11 programs ranked in the top 40.

With Alexandra Bonetti and Sanna Nuutinen carding 73s and tied for fourth individually, TCU has three golfers in the top five.

Bonetti totaled a team-best four birdies, including three in a five-hole stretch. Nuutinen recorded par on 15 holes.

TCU freshman Maria Maymon is tied for 22nd with a 75. She had back-to-back birdies on the back nine.
