Feb. 22, 2005
DORADO, Puerto Rico - TCU slipped one spot to third after day two of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Dorado, Puerto Rico. Sophomore Camille Blackerby shot an even-par 72 to tie with Auburn's Diana Ramage for second place with scores of 147 (+3), just one stroke behind Florida's Tiffany Chudy, who claimed sole possession of first place (74-72=146, +2). Meanwhile, No. 3 Auburn held tight as a team by shooting a 297 (596) to keep seven strokes ahead of No. 16 Florida (603) and nine strokes ahead of TCU (605).
Yesterday's individual leader, Sofie Andersson of California, slipped to a six-way tie for eighth (71-79). For the Frogs, sophomore Catherine Matranga fell to a two-way share of 14th after a five-over par Tuesday performance (74-77=151), while senior D'Rae Ward slipped to a five-way tie for 16th after carding a six-over par 78 (74-78=152).
Freshman Elisa Gomez improved her game by six strokes in the second round, marking a 75 (81-75=156), good for a eight-way tie a 30th. Sophomore Stacey Bieber also limited her swings in day two, carding a 77 (81-77=158) and locking herself into an overnight four-way share of 41st.
The No. 49 Horned Frogs' consistency keeps them ahead of several teams ranked higher than them on the most recent Golfweek rankings, including No. 5 Georgia, No. 17 Texas, No. 22 Tulsa, No. 21 USC, and No. 18 Wake Forest, among others.
The 72 par, 6,000 yard course will be played in a 54 hole format (18-18-18=54). Last year's individual title went to USC's then-freshman Veronica Felibert of Caracas, Venezuela (213), presently tied for 30th with a seven-over par 79, and the team trophy went to Duke (862), who is not competing in this year's tournament. Play begins at 7 a.m. Central each day, Feb. 21-23.
