Ward Finishes Third, Horned Frogs Finish Fourth

March 1, 2005

BRYAN, Texas - Senior D'Rae Ward finished higher today in the Texas A&M "Mo"Morial than she has in any tournament in two years; with sole ownership of individual third place, Ward helped the No. 32 TCU Horned Frogs to their second top-four team finish in as many weeks. No. 26 SMU took home the top team honors, just three strokes ahead of the Frogs, while host Texas A&M (No. 43) and No. 33 Kent State each finished two strokes ahead to share second place.

Ward's tough, consistent play today boosted her from her tie for 19th - where she began the day - to a final position at third, just two strokes behind the medalist, Samantha Richdale of Illinois State, and one stroke behind second place. Ward played one of the best rounds of golf all day among the 81 competitors, carding a two-over par score of 74 to finish the tournament.

Sophomore Camillle Blackerby also climbed the standings today from a tie for 19th to a tie for sixth. Blackerby fired a four-over par 76 in the final round to bring her total to an 18-over 234. Two straight birdies in her back nine helped the Breckinridge, Texas, native greatly as she snagged her second top-six finish for the spring and fourth in her career.

Sophomore Elin Emanuelsson suffered her worst round today, shooting a nine-over par 81 to bring her total to a 22-over par 238 and a tie for 15th. A double-bogey on her third hole set her up for a bad patch, but she still maintained her highest career tournament finish.

Sophomore Catherine Matranga carded a 10-over par performance today, closing the day at 25-over and in sole possession of 26th place. Sophomore Stacey Bieber had one of the toughest rounds of her college career as she shot an 85 in the final round to put her at a tie for 49th with a 32-over par 248.

The two-day tournament, Feb. 28 and March 1, at Traditions Golf Club (par-72, 6,386 yards) featured a 15-team field, including No. 26 SMU, No. 30 Baylor, No. 34 Kent State, No. 46 Northwestern, and the hosts, No. 43 Texas A&M. Other teams in the mix include North Carolina, Oregon State, Wisconsin, Kansas, Kansas State, UTEP, Indiana, Illinois State, and UT-Pan American.
