Women's Golf Places Tied For Ninth at PING/ASU Invitational

TEMPE, Ariz. - The TCU women's golf team tied for ninth place among 16 schools at the prestigious PING/ASU Invitational over the weekend. TCU shot a 308 on Sunday and finished the event with a 54-hole score of 911 (+47). California won the tournament title with a score of 876 (+12).
Senior Shannon Barr paced the Horned Frogs with a 10-over-par score of 226. She tied for 31st place overall after registering a 77 in the final round. Freshman Stephanie Godare finished just behind Barr, tying for 34th place with a score of 227. She was consistent throughout the tournament, posting rounds of 76-75-76.
Brooke Tull's top-20 streak was snapped at nine, as she finished tied for 44th place with a score of 229. It was the first time this season that Tull has not finished among the field's top 20.
Sophomore D'Rae Ward, who had won two straight individual medals, tied for 49th place (230). She had the Frogs' best final round, notching a 75 on Sunday. Freshman Traci Robison tied for 79th with a 241 (+25).
The nation's top-ranked player, Arizona's Erica Blasberg, and 13 of the top 35 teams in the Golfweek/Sagarin Collegiate Rankings, played in the tournament. The 16-team field included (No. 4) Texas, (No. 5) USC, (No. 6) Arizona, (No. 9) California, (No. 11) New Mexico, (No. 15) Tulsa, (No. 16) UCLA, (No. 17) Washington, (No. 26) New Mexico State, (No. 27) Stanford, (No. 29) Arizona State and (No. 32) TCU, as well as Oregon State, San Jose State, Oregon and Northern Arizona. The individual field was just as impressive, featuring 13 of the top 25 players in the country.
The 54-hole tournament was played on the par-72, 6,183-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course. The PING/ASU Invitational has been held each year since the 1965-66 season.
