TEMPE, Ariz. -- Sanna Nuutinen's 71, highlighted by three consecutive birdies on the back nine, has TCU in a tie for 12th place after Friday's opening round of the PING/ASU Invitational.

Eleven of the 17 teams in this weekend's field are ranked in the top 25.

TCU's 4-over-par 292 marked a season-low round and its best score since a 292 in the opening round of last year's PING/ASU Invitational.

At 1 under, Nuutinen is tied for 19th individually and just four strokes off the lead. The junior from Helsinki, Finland, carded four birdies in a six-hole stretch and finished with a team-high five on the day.

Alexandra Bonetti had two birdies en route to a 1-over 73 and a tie for 35th. She has posted a top-10 finish in two of her last three tournaments.

Maria Maymon and April McCoy added 74s for TCU. Both of Maymon's birdies came in her final five holes. McCoy shot par on 14 holes.

With a 9-under 279, No. 11 UCLA holds a one-stroke lead over No. 2 Duke.

The Blue Devils' Laetitia Beck and Washington's Jennifer Yang are tied for the individual lead with 67s.

TCU's second-round tee times Saturday begin at 11:20 a.m. CDT. Live scoring is available at www.Golfstat.com.
