Frogs Trail By Only Four Strokes
April 20, 2004
Fort Worth, Texas - Two Horned Frogs lowered their scores by ten strokes in Tuesday's round of the 2004 Greenwood Office Outfitters Conference USA Women's Golf Championship at Shady Oaks Country Club in Fort Worth. The improvement helped the Frogs to a second place finish for the day, a mere four strokes behind the team leader, Tulane.
Freshman Elin Emanuelsson's eagle on the third hole got her off to a running start, allowing her to continue her good play throughout the day and shoot a seven-over par 79 -- a ten-stroke improvement over her first round on Monday. She climbed ten spots individually to finish tied for 25th.
Freshman Catherine Matranga tripped up on the second hole of the day with a double-bogey on the par four hole that she birdied the day before. Fortunately, it proved not to be a barometer for her day, as she knocked around only three other single bogeys; she shot the rest for par and even slid in a biride on hole ten. She jumped from her tie for 30th to tie for 14th as the third and final round approaches. Overall, she shot a four-over 76 for Tuesday's second round.
Freshman Camille Blackerby made strides of her own today, as she went from a tie for 12th to a tie for 5th. She shot a three-over par 75 today, a five-stroke improvement on her first day's attempt. Despite shooting the same amount of bogeys and double-bogeys as her first round, she made up ground by collecting five birdies throughout Tuesday's round. Her performance leaves her four strokes behind the leader, East Carolina's Adrienne Millican.
Senior Brooke Tull slid from a tie for third to a tie for fifth. The middle holes threw her for a loop: she shot five bogeys in eight straight holes. She hung on to finish strong, however, making par on the last five holes to end the day with a six-over par 78.
Freshman Stacey Bieber rounds out the TCU lineup, sliding two spots from a tie for 15th to a tie for 17th. After collecting the Frogs' lone birdie yesterday -- on the final hole, at that -- Bieber nailed another one on the first hole today. From there, things got worse, as she bogied on five of the front nine. She finished the day 11-over par with a score of 83.
Conference USA Championship action concludes tomorrow as tee-offs begin at 7:30 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow the third and final round of 18 holes. Full results, including leaderboards, pairings, photos, and hole-by-hole results, can be found at www.golfstat.com
