LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 28 TCU women's golf team shot a first-round 299 to finish in a tie for 10th at the 2005 NCAA Women's Golf Central Regional today at The Rawls Course. Horned Frog sophomores Camille Blackerby and Catherine Matranga lead the team with two-over scores of 74.

The event got a late start as the first tee-off times were pushed back an hour due to a fog delay. The first tee off began at 8:30 a.m. at both the first and 10th hole.

Texas holds the number one spot at two-over par (290), followed by Missouri and New Mexico at three-over 291. TCU lies just outside the top eight by one stroke (+11, 299).

Blackerby had the most consistent day out of the Frogs, peppering three bogeys in her 18 holes and closing out her day with her lone birdie. She finished tied for 27th with a two-over 74.

Matranga carded two bogeys to begin her day but calmed down by her fourth hole to nail a birdie. After losing another bogey later in the front nine, she managed another birdie to level her field at a two-over 74 for a tie for 27th.

Senior D'Rae Ward had the most rollercoaster first round of all the Frogs, as she kicked her day off with a bogey, double-bogey, bogey in the first three holes. Ward went on to can four birdies, but three more bogeys in her day would set her back to a three-over par 75 for a tie at 39th.

Sophomore Elin Emanuelsson joined Ward with four birdies; however, she paired those with eight bogeys, setting her back to four-over 76 and a tie for 50th. Sophomore Stacey Bieber, last week's C-USA runner-up, had a tough first round, carding a seven-over 79.

The 2005 NCAA Central Regional will get underway tomorrow with a 7:30 a.m. tee time set at holes one and 10. The final round will conclude on Saturday with the top eight teams advancing, as well as the top two-individuals not on the top eight teams also securing a spot in the Championships.
