TCU Finishes 19th at Regionals

LUBBOCK, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs were unable to secure a top-eight finish and a berth into the NCAA Championships as they finished 19th at the 2005 NCAA Central Regional in Lubbock, Texas. Auburn finished as the Central Regional Champion, with Diana Ramage firing a five-under 67 in the final round to secure the individual medalist slot. Sophomore Camille Blackerby finishes highest individually for the Frogs at a tie for 42nd.
The Regional went into a play off for the two individual spots as Michigan's Brianna Broderick and LSU's Brooke Shelton ended the 18-hole course tied at eight-over par after the third round. Shelton was able to overcome Broderick in the playoff which was played at hole 18. Texas' Lisa Ferrero (70-73-79-222) earned the top individual spot with a six-over-par performance for the tournament. Ferrero finished tied for fourth overall.
Finishing in the top-eight, as well as earning a berth to the 2005 NCAA Championships in Sunriver, Ore., is No. 6 Auburn (294-309-293-896) in first followed by No. 37 Texas A&M (293-310-300-903) in second. Rounding out the top eight, in the three through eight positions were, No. 15 Missouri (291-312-302-905), No. 4 Arizona State (296-310-300-906), No. 21Tulsa (298-310-300-908), No. 35 Purdue (295-309-304-908), No. 41 Michigan State (300-307-302-909) and No. 20 Arkansas (300-311-304-915).
The Frogs were unable to overcome an unfortunate 40-over second round, slipping another spot from 18th to 19th in the final day. Twenty-two strokes out of qualifying for the NCAA championships, the team tallied a 21-over for the day. Sophomore Camille Blackerby had the best day, counting two birdies on her card for a four-over round after a seemingly disastrous start of a bogey, triple-bogey. Sophomore Catherine Matranga also tallied two birdies to leave her with a six-over card. Senior D'Rae Ward collected two birdies for a seven-over day and sophomore Elin Emanuelsson had two birdies for a six-over day. Sophomore Stacey Bieber rounded out the Frogs with a 10-over score.
TCU finishes its season with eight top-ten finishes, highlighted by the Lady Boilermaker Invitational top honors.
