TCU Has Strong Opening Round at Regional

NORMAN, Okla. -- Alexandra Bonetti's 71 keyed a strong first round for TCU on Thursday as the Horned Frogs are in fourth place at the NCAA Central Regional.
The top-eight teams and two individuals after Saturday's final round will advance to the NCAA Championships May 21-24 in Athens, Ga.
TCU's 2-over-par 290 marked its best postseason round since an opening-round 287 at the 2010 East Regional in Greenville, N.C. The Horned Frogs are making their 18th-consecutive postseason appearance.
Bonetti is tied for 13th individually with her 1-under 71. The sophomore from Paris, France, birdied two of her opening six holes and recorded 15 pars.
April McCoy's 72 marked her best round since a final-round 69 at the Windy City Collegiate Classic (Oct. 2), when she rallied from a four-stroke deficit to take medalist honors. McCoy birdied her final two holes Thursday en route to three birdies overall.
Sanna Nuutinen added a 73 for the Horned Frogs. The Helsinki, Finland, native recorded par on 13 holes and posted two birdies.
Maria Maymon's 74 equaled her low round of the spring. She totaled three birdies and was 1 over on both the front and back nine.
Kortnie Maxoutopoulis shot par on the back nine en route to a 76 for TCU.
No. 9 Florida carded a 6-under 282 and holds a one-stroke lead over host and No. 4 Oklahoma.
With a 67, the Sooners' Emily Collins sits atop the individual leaderboard by one shot over Florida's Elcin Ulu.
