Frogs tie for 17th at NCAA National Championship

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Valentine Derrey led TCU with a final-round 74 Friday as the Horned Frogs finished in a tie for 17th at the NCAA Women's Golf National Championship. TCU, which finished 11th at last year's event, made its first back-to-back appearances at the NCAA Championship since 1999-2000. The Frogs' five-player lineup featured three freshmen. Derrey, a sophomore from Paris, France, was at 2 over par over the final two rounds. The Co-Mountain West Conference Player of the Year tied for 48th individually with a team-best 303. Freshmen Prisela Campbell and Allyson Ferguson both carded final-round 77s, while fellow rookie Melissa Loh had a 79. Carrie Morris, the Frogs' lone senior, posted an 80. No. 26 TCU tied No. 28 Texas for 17th place. The Frogs finished ahead of three teams ranked above them, including No. 11 Oklahoma State and No. 13 Arizona. TCU's 307 Friday represented its second-best round of the tournament. Second-ranked USC posted a six-stroke victory over crosstown rival and No. 3 UCLA for the team title.
