April 17, 2006
FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's golf program has announced the signing of Valentine Derrey (Paris, France) and Megan O'Donnell (Houston) to National Letters of Intent.
Derrey won the 2005 Junior French Championship (under 18) and was runner-up at the 2004 and 2005 French Team Championship.
Derrey was also runner-up at the 2004 British Girls Open Amateur Championship and a quarterfinalist at the 2005 event. While playing for the French team, she won the 2004 European Ladies Junior qualification. She has been part of French National Teams since 2001.
Derrey placed second at the 2005 Duke of York tournament. She also posted top-25 finishes at the 2004 and 2005 European Women's Individual Championship.
"Valentine is a tremendous international player," TCU women's golf coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin said. "We're very fortunate to sign such a high-profile student-athlete and to add even more international flare to our team."
O'Donnell is a four-time all-district selection and regional qualifier. She was the 2005 regional runner-up while placing second in the district each of the last three years. O'Donnell was all-region in 2004 and 2005 and a state qualifier as a junior.
O'Donnell has won two tournaments for Memorial High School this season, capturing the Huntsville Invitational (Nov. 11-12) and the Clements Invitational (Jan. 27). She has placed in the top six in all nine of her events as a senior.
O'Donnell has a 76.1 stroke average. Her best nine and 18-hole scores are 34 and 71, respectively. She holds the Memorial record for a 36-hole tournament.
O'Donnell finished first at the 2005 Texas Legends Match Play Championship and the 2006 Texas Junior Golf Tour stop in Cypresswood.
"We love signing Texas players," Ravaioli-Larkin said. "Megan has really come on strong in the last year.
"Valentine and Megan add great depth to next year's squad and will help give us a chance to have a nationally-prominent program."
