TCU Returns to Action in Oklahoma
Oct. 13, 2012
FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU women's golf team returns to action Monday when it begins play at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic in Norman, Okla.
The tournament will take place at the par 72, 6,327-yard Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club. The Susie Maxwell Berning Classic will feature three 18-hole rounds over the course of three days. TCU's Monday tee times begin at 10:20 a.m. Live scoring is available via www.golfstat.com.
The Horned Frogs will be competing in the state of Oklahoma for the first time since 2001, when they finished fifth at the Big 12 Invitational in Stillwater. Twelve of the 16 teams in that event were from TCU's new conference home.
Four Big 12 opponents, including host and No. 18 Oklahoma, No. 22 Texas Tech, Kansas and Kansas State are in this year's Susie Maxwell Berning Classic field. Other teams include No. 20 Notre Dame, No. 28 Denver, No. 29 Ohio State, No. 32 Texas State, No. 35 SMU, Kent State, Kennesaw State, Middle Tennessee, New Mexico, Redlands, South Florida and Tulsa.
TCU is returning to action for the first time since Oct. 1-2 at the Windy City Collegiate Classic in Golf, Ill., when April McCoy overcame a four-stroke final-round deficit to win the individual title. The sophomore from Carrollton, Texas, carded a career-best 69 to finish with a 2-under 214.
McCoy became the ninth different Horned Frog to capture medalist honors in a tournament in the 19-year tenure of head coach Angie Ravaioli-Larkin. It was the 22nd overall individual title by a TCU golfer under Ravaioli-Larkin and the first since Sanna Nuutinen won the 2012 Mountain West Championship.
The Horned Frogs will welcome the return of Nuutinen, who did not play in the Windy City Collegiate Classic as she was representing her native Finland at the Women's World Amateur Team Championship in Antalya, Turkey.
Bonetti and McCoy will be the only Horned Frogs to have competed in all three tournaments this fall.
