Track & Field Complete Season Opener in College Station

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The TCU men’s and women’s indoor track teams wrapped up action at the Texas A&M Team Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 17, in College Station.
“We had some positive performances in our first meet of the season,” director of track and field Darryl Anderson said. “Now we have two weeks of training and we’ll get ready for the New Mexico Invitational.”
The men’s 4x400 relay finished second with a time of 3:08.26, a time that ranks second in the nation in NCAA competition this year. The team consisted of freshman Kevin McClanahan at the start, followed by redshirt sophomore Raymond Bozmans and junior Sam Watts and anchored by junior Ronnie Baker.
Baker also clocked in at 6.65 in the men’s 60m, en route to a second-place finish. His mark is currently tied for fifth nationally.
In the women’s 60m, sophomore Iphona-Clemence Paiement paced to a third-place time at 7.61. Her prelims time of 7.57 set a new personal-best for her in the event.
Redshirt freshman Arin Rice claimed the top time in the women’s 1-mile at 5:00.49 for her first collegiate win of her young career.
Sophomore Tiffany Terry placed second in the women’s 400m at 54.67. Her time is good for 10th overall in the country in NCAA competition this season.
In the women’s 60 hurdles, sophomore Makaila Flannigan posted a fourth-place mark, clocking in at 8.69.
Senior Megan Smith finished fourth in the women’s shot put. She put up a throw of 14.68m (48-2) in her fourth toss.
With the first meet under their belt, the Horned Frogs take the next two weeks to prepare for the next meet, the New Mexico Invitational, on Jan. 31, in Albuquerque, N.M.
