TCU Announces Scholar-Athletes of the Month

Feb. 2, 2017

FORT WORTH, TexasVladimir Brodziansky of men’s basketball and Brenley Goertzen of women’s track have been named TCU's Scholar-Athletes of the Month based on impressive performances not only in competition, but also in the classroom.

Broziansky, a native of Prievidza, Slovakia, has done phenomenal since he started playing in America, especially during this defining season for the Frogs. Out of the eight games the team has played this past month, Brodziansky has been the leading scorer in five of them, including their incredible wins over Oklahoma and Texas. He also led the team in rebounds last weekend against Auburn, as well as earlier this month when he totaled 14 against Iowa State. His presence on the court has been key to the team’s success and is expected to continue the rest of this season and into his senior year.

Goertzen, a distance runner out of Woodbury, Minnesota, has had a spectacular sophomore season in cross country and track. She was named a Big 12 bronze medalist as well as a 2016 NCAA Championships qualifier, the first Horned Frog to receive the bid since 2012. Her 6,000-meter time of 20:35.1 put her at No. 4 on TCU’s all-time top five list. She started off this indoor track season with a bang at the team's January race in College Station. Goertzon broke the school record in the 3,000-meter race as she won the event with a time of 9:27.83. Showing spectacular ability at the Frogs first indoor race puts Goertzon in the spotlight for the season ahead.
