Track & Field Set For Jim Click Shootout

TUCSON, Ariz. --
The TCU men's and women's track and field team will compete at the Jim Click Shootout in Roy P. Drachman Stadium in Tucson, Ariz. on Saturday, April 8. Action will begin at 11 a.m. CDT with the hammer throw. Running events will commence at 2:40 p.m. CDT with the start of the 100-meter hurdles.

The Field
The Horned Frogs will be competing against Arizona, Iowa, Northern Arizona, Oklahoma State and Wisconsin. Live results will be available via FinishedResults, as well as @TCUTrackField on Twitter.

Top 25
TCU holds nine top-25 times in the NCAA heading into the weekend.

Freshman Derrick Mokaleng ranks 21st in the nation in the 400 meters at 46.73. TCU’s 4x100 relay squad of Raymond Bozmans, junior Emeilo Ferguson, sophomore Darrion Flowers and junior Jalen Miller hold the NCAA’s 22nd-fastest time this season at 39.89. The 4x400 relay quartet of junior Kevin McClanahan, freshman Jostyn Andrews, freshman Ryan Champlin and Mokaleng rank 18th in the nation at 3:07.48. Junior Scotty Newton ranks 16th in the country in the long jump with a mark of 25 feet (7.62m).

Sophomore Brenley Goertzen ranks ninth in the NCAA after running a school-record 5,000-meter time of 15:51.78 last week. Junior Sabrina Moore holds the NCAA’s No. 15 time in the 100 meters with a time of 11.40. Sophomore Kayla Heard ran the nation’s 14th-fastest time in the 400 meters at 53.23. Sophomore Brittney Trought ranks No. 15 in the country in the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.31. Sophomore Lexi Aitken ranks 21st in the NCAA in the 400 hurdles with a time of 58.86.

Familiar Field
Last season, the Frogs excelled at the Jim Click Shootout. Eight athletes posted team-highs. Among those returning, Fellan McGuigan set the school record at 211-6/64.67m in the hammer in Tucson; Scotty Newton recorded a season-best in the long jump, Makaila Flannigan (long jump), Kayla Heard (400m), Judy Emeodi (200m).

Big 12 Champion
In her first collegiate 5,000-meter race, Goertzen took home gold at the Big 12 Indoor Championships with a school-record time of 16:02.80. Her time broke the previous TCU record by more than 20 seconds and beat out second place by 12 seconds. She also went on to place third in the 3K at the conference championships at 9:23.01. Last week, Goertzen broke the school 5K record by more than 21 seconds with a time of 15:51.78 at the Stanford Invitational.

Leap Frog
Junior Scotty Newton represented the Horned Frogs at the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in the triple jump to cap the indoor season. Newton placed 12th at the meet and leads the way in jumps on the men's side. Newton moved to No. 2 on TCU's all-time list with a personal-best distance of 53 feet 4.25 inches (16.26 meters) at Frisco during the indoor season. He currently ranks 16th in the nation in the long jump.

* 2015: Ronnie Baker (60 meters)
* 2014: Lorraine Ugen (long jump)
* 2013: Charles Silmon (100 meters), Lorraine Ugen (long jump)
* 2012: Whitney Gipson (indoor long jump, outdoor long jump)
* Only one other school in the Big 12 has claimed gold in each year since 2013 (Texas).
