TCU Earns 23 Entries To NCAA Prelims

FORT WORTH, Texas – The TCU men’s and women’s track and field team earned 23 entries to move on to postseason competition at the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds at Mike A. Myers Stadium on May 25-27 in Austin, Texas.
The top 48 student-athletes from each event earned berths to the NCAA Prelim, and the athletes who come away with the top 12 times/marks this weekend will qualify for the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore.
The Horned Frogs will be heavily represented in the 100-meter dash with four total entries. Big 12 Champion Jalen Miller will head into the meet ranked 12th in the region at 10.19 seconds. His last time out, Miller brought the Big 12 100-meter conference title back to Fort Worth after racing to a season-best 10.03 (w+5.3) finish. Miller’s performance marked the third time in 5 years TCU won the men’s Big 12 100-meter dash.
Junior Emeilo Ferguson, who took home fourth at the Big 12 Championship, will line up ranked 15th in the region in the 100 meters with a seeded time of 10.20. On the women’s side, junior Sabrina Moore ranks 16th in the region at 11.37.
Indoor Big 12 Champion Brenley Goertzen will headline the women’s squad in the 5,000-meter run. Goertzen produced a personal-best and school record time of 15:51.78 earlier this season, ranking eighth in the region.
In the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Brittney Trought boasts a personal/season-best time of 13.05, the 12th-fastest seeded time in the region, heading into the prelims.
Sophomore Lexi Aitken will race in both individual hurdle events. Aitken ranks 21st in the 400-meter hurdles with a seeded time of 58.86.
Junior Scotty Newton, who represented the Frogs at the NCAA Indoor Championships this year, will look to make his third-straight appearance in Eugene. Newton is ranked third in the region after earning silver and setting a personal-best mark of 53 feet 11 inches (16.43 meters) in the triple jump at the Big 12 Championship. Newton also earned a berth to compete in the long jump.
Junior Briona Oliver will represent TCU in the women’s long jump. Oliver is ranked 15th in the region with a seeded mark of 20 feet 7.75 inches (6.29 meters).
TCU qualified for the 4x100 and 4x400 relays on both the men’s and women’s teams. On the men’s side, the 4x100 relay squad of senior Raymond Bozmans, Ferguson, sophomore Darrion Flowers and Miller produced a season-best time of 39.15 and will enter competition ranked fifth in the region. The men’s 4x400 relay team of junior Kevin McClanahan, Flowers, and freshmen Jostyn Andrews and Derrick Mokaleng clocked a season-best time of 3:06.00, ranking eighth in the region. Mokaleng (15th, 46.19) and McClanahan also qualified for the 400-meter dash.
The women’s 4x100 relay team of senior Judy Emeodi, Moore, Oliver and sophomore Kayla Heard rank 18th in the region with a seeded time of 44.78. The region’s ninth-ranked women’s 4x400 relay quartet of junior Tiffany Terry, Emeodi, Aitken and Heard produced their season best time at the Big 12 Championship, logging a finish of 3:34.61. Heard also qualified for the 400-meter dash (53.23), while Emeodi also earned bids in the 100 and 200 meters.
On the throwing end, freshmen Isaiah Rogers and Ryan Camp rank 22nd in the shot put and discus, respectively. Sophomore Fellan McGuigan matched his personal-best and school record mark of 211 feet 6 inches (64.47 meters) this year and is ranked 17th in the region in the hammer throw. Junior Paola Miranda will represent the Frogs in the women’s hammer throw.
