June 6, 2018

EUGENE, Ore. – The TCU track and field team began competition at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Wednesday. Despite not advancing any events to Friday’s finals, all three of TCU’s events earned Second-Team All-America honors.

In the men’s 4x100m relay, Lebogang Maloka, Tinotenda Maloka, Darrion Flowers, and Jalen Miller ran a season-best 39.26 and finished third in their heat. TCU finished 11th overall and earned Second-Team All-America honors. The semifinal was highly competitive, with 11 of the top 12 teams recording season-bests.

Derrick Mokaleng also secured a Second-Team All-America honor in the men’s 400m. He finished fifth in his heat with a time of 45.79.

In the men’s 4x400, Flowers, Emmanuel Ogwo, Kevin McClanahan, and Mokaleng finished with the ninth fastest time of the semifinal, but recorded a faster time than two of the automatic qualifiers from a different heat. TCU finished in 3:05.59 and will receive Second-Team All-America honors.

The last event on the schedule for TCU is the men’s triple jump. Big 12 triple jump champion Scotty Newton and NCAA Indoor bronze medalist Chengetayi Mapaya will compete on Friday, June 8, at 7:40 p.m. CT.
