Shreveport, La. - The TCU Horned Frogs soccer team picked up their first victory of the season, a 2-0 blanking of the Centenary Ladies. The Horned Frogs picked up a goal in each half en route to the victory. Jennifer Sims (Fr., The Colony, Texas) and Katie Buchanan (Fr., Plano, Texas) each played a half in goal for the Frogs, facing only four shots and making one save to record their first combined shutout of their careers.

TCU hit the ground running in the first half, taking control early. The Frogs hit paydirt in the 12th minute as Jessi Moore (Jr., Arlington, Texas) scored the first goal of the season. Amy Van Zandt (Jr., Fort Worth, Texas) took a shot wide of the goal that was blocked out to the front of the net where Moore waited. She buried the ball in the back of the net for her first goal as a Horned Frog.

The Frogs had plenty of opportunities in the first half to increase their lead, but shot wide of the net. Centenary put the pressure on late in the game as they made a push to tie the game going into the half. With under a minute left to play in the half, Heather Kasparek took a shot that was ticketed for a wide open Centenary Lady. Bara Gunnarsdottir (So., Kopavogur, Iceland) made a sliding stop clearing the ball wide of the goal to preserve the 1-0 lead for the Frogs.

In the second half, Centenary picked up the same tempo as the last minute of the first half, but saw it go for naught as the TCU defense played tough, preventing them from getting good shots at the goal. Kelly Potysman (Jr., Fort Worth, Texas) head a ball out of danger early in the half, keeping the Frogs in control.

Van Zandt tried to give the Frogs a two-goal lead in the middle of the half on a header ticketed for the back of the net. Ladies goalkeeper Lindsey Stafford made the stop keeping Centenary in the game.

With just under 10 minutes left in the half, Buchanan made a diving stop on a cross ball to prevent a scoring opportunity for the Ladies. The Frogs finally picked up their insurance goal with just over two minutes left in the game as Elizabeth Walsh (So., Dallas, Texas) beat the goalkeeper deep in the offensive zone. Laura Greenberg (Jr., Mission Viejo, Calif.) crossed the ball to Cara Toulouse (Jr., Fort Worth, Texas) who headed the ball over to Walsh for the Frogs second goal of the game.

Overall, TCU outshot the Ladies 18-4, including a 7-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Horned Frogs move to 1-1 on the season with the victory. On Sunday, September 7, the Frogs will open up the home portion of their schedule with a match-up against Texas Tech. Game time at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium is set for 1 p.m.
