20th-Rated Pepperdine Shuts Out TCU Women's Soccer
Sept. 8, 2002
Behind two goals from freshman forward Jenna Fodor, the No. 20-ranked Pepperdine women's soccer team posted its second consecutive shutout, defeating visiting TCU 3-0 in a non-conference match Sunday afternoon at Tari Frahm Rokus Field.
Pepperdine improved its season record to 3-0-1, while the Horned Frogs dropped to 1-3-1 on the year. It was the second time this season that TCU has been shut out.
"This was a tough road trip for us," TCU head coach David Dubinson said. "Pepperdine has a very strong team, and we just weren't able to get anything going against them."
The win also upped the Waves' record against non-conference opponents over the past three seasons to 22-2-4 (.857) and extended their regular-season non-conference unbeaten streak to 25 matches. Pepperdine has also gone unbeaten in 23 straight non-conference home contests dating back to the 1999 season-opener.
Fodor gave Pepperdine a 1-0 lead at the 18:23 mark when she scored her first career goal after receiving a pass from sophomore forward Jenna Ainsworth. She increased the Waves' lead to 2-0 at 61:38 when she scored following a rebounded shot by freshman defender Daniella Bosio who had her shot attempt blocked by TCU goalkeeper Ruth DeJong.
Sophomore forward Ali Pavoni accounted for Pepperdine's final score at the 82:46 mark. Senior forward Kristi Bissonnette and junior midfielder Janelle Hillseth were credited assists on the play.
For the second straight match, Pepperdine dominated the match as it out-shot the Horned Frogs, 32-3. The Waves defense turned it another solid effort, allowing TCU just one shot-on-goal.
Junior goalkeeper Teresa Montano recorded her second consecutive shutout and has only allowed one goal in 335:00 of action this season.
