DALLAS -- SMU scored on its lone shot on goal and held off a TCU comeback to hand the Horned Frogs a 1-0 loss Thursday night at Westcott Field. The Frogs outshot the Mustangs 11-6 and had a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Rundown
SMU struck first with a goal in the 27th minute. After TCU had carried the play for much of the early portion of the contest, SMU found a rhythm in the middle part of the half and earned a pair of corner kicks. The Mustangs capitalized on the second one on a header from Vanessa Valadez.

After registering just two shots in the first half, the Frogs came out firing in the second half, unleashing nine shots. Emma Heckendorn and Ariana Owens both had great looks on goal only to see their shots go just high over the crossbar.

McKenzie Oliver had the best chance late in the second as she took a cross from Ryan Williams and turned to shoot. An SMU defender closed in right as Oliver's foot connected with the ball and she blocked it out of danger.

With the clock under two minutes, the Frogs had three great chances to find the back of the net after SMU was whistled for a foul just outside the 18. The Frogs generated a pair of corner kicks, but couldn't capitalize.

Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell

On the game: "Credit to SMU on the win. I thought in the first half, in the first 20 minutes we had the ball and really carried the play. The next 20 minutes they had the ball and were really aggressive. They kind of took it to us and I thought that was where we lost the game. In the second half, I thought it was pretty much ours. We created a bunch of chances but weren't able to put the ball in the net."

On the team's defense:
"We were really organized. They weren't really dangerous and I thought our defending was pretty good. Our mentality needs to be tweaked a little bit and we will fix that."
