Soccer Frogs Drop First Conference Match Against ECU, 2-1
Sept. 21, 2001
GREENVILLE, N.C. (September 21, 2001) -- TCU freshman forward Laura Greenberg scored her second career goal in consecutive games Friday afternoon during the Frogs' first-ever Conference USA match against ECU (3-3, 1-0), but the Purple and White came up short to the Pirates, 2-1. The Horned Frogs (2-4, 0-1) have now dropped their last three matches, losing by a combined score of 7-2.
ECU struck first in the 30th minute with Kelly Gray`s chip shot over TCU goalkeeper Shannon Wagner. The goal was set up by freshman Krystel Pabey's throw-in to Lauren Boucher who redirected the ball to Gray, allowing her to loft the ball just over Wagner's head and in to the back of the net.
TCU tied the score with five minutes remaining in the first half when freshman Laura Greenberg received a cross from sophomore Julie Vaughn at the back post. ECU freshman goaltender Lauren Wolff was screened off by the Horned Frogs' defense, allowing Greenberg the open shot at the net.
With time winding down in the second half, the Pirates' Boucher was awarded a direct kick and the sophomore deflected the ball off of the Horned Frogs' defensive wall, only to pick up the rebound and poke it past Wagner for the game-winner. The goal was the first of Boucher's career.
The Frogs travel to Saint Louis to face the Billikens this Sunday, September 23, where they will be looking for their first conference victory in C-USA. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
