DENTON, Texas - Kela Gray's goal in the 61st minute broke a scoreless tie and Vittoria Arnold made four saves for her fifth shutout of the season to help TCU to a 1-0 win over North Texas Sunday. The victory is the sixth straight for the Horned Frogs.

"I knew it was going to be a hard fought game," said head coach Eric Bell. "It was a match where both teams were trying to grind out a `W" but I was really proud of our ladies doing everything they could to get the result for us today. They worked hard and I think the soccer gods were with us today as well."

TCU wasted no time carrying the ball into its offensive zone. Meghan Murphy's header was blocked out of danger by Mean Green goalkeeper, Jackie Kerestine. The Frogs didn't let up, eventually earning a corner kick. The feed was blocked away, but the Frogs kept the ball in the zone. Brittany Little's shot from 25 yards out in the 10th minute was high over the goal and Murphy was once again stoned by Kerestine in tight four minutes later.

North Texas turned the field in its favor in the middle portion of the set, but solid defense from the backline kept the shots to distance and none made it on goal.

"The back line is doing a really good job. They had a few complications in certain instances but for the most part, over the last six games, they have been a really strong, brick wall in front of Vittoria (Arnold). She has done a good job making the routine saves and coming up with a couple big ones like the PK today," said Bell.

In the 23rd minute, Madeline Hamm had the half's best opportunity to score as she made a move around her defender inside the 18-yardbox. She went one-on-one with the keeper, but Kerestine dove and smothered the ball to keep the match scoreless.

The second half started with a bang as North Texas pushed hard to get the opening goal. Arnold made a stop in tight on Rachel Holden then dodged a bullet as Kaylah Hunter's shot ricocheted off the crossbar in the 53rd minute.

TCU finally broke the scoreless game in the 61st minute. Ryan Williams made a strong run down the sideline. Her feed into the 18-yard box was intercepted, but she regained possession and tapped it to a wide-open Gray, who didn't miss as she scored past a diving Kerestine for the lead.

North Texas' pressured to get the tying goal, but Arnold stood tall in goal. She made a diving stop on Holden, who carried the ball in one-on-one, then had to stop her again on a penalty kick in the 65th minute.

The Mean Green kept the pressure on, but was unlucky as Marchelle Davis hit the post, facing a wide-open net in the 76th minute. TCU's defense buckled down and limited North Texas to just one shot the remainder of the match.

TCU improves to 7-3 overall with the victory. The Horned Frogs will open Big 12 play Friday night when they host nationally-ranked West Virginia at 7.
