FORT WORTH -- Tara Smith turned and fired a shot that sailed into the upper corner of the goal in the second overtime to propel TCU past Kansas 1-0 in both team's Big 12 opener Friday night at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.

The Rundown
TCU carried play the majority of the contest, limiting Kansas to just six shots and only one on goal. Katie Lund had no problem collecting the soft kick on goal in the first overtime.

Chances were plenty for the Frogs throughout the game, but Jayhawk goalkeeper Maddie Dobyns made three great saves to keep the Frogs off the scoreboard. Yazmeen Ryan fired off a shot through a crowd in the 24th minute forcing Dobyns to make a diving save.

More great looks in the second half, including a pair of attempts off the foot of Kayla Hill right on the doorstep, were thwarted by Dobyns in the second half.

TCU finally hit paydirt in the 105th minute as Smith finally found some space. The Frogs earned a corner kick setting off the chain of events. Ariana Owens kept the play alive as she fired the ball back inside the 16. The pass deflected off a Kansas defender and right to the foot of Smith. She wasted little time blasting the high-rising shot into the upper corner for the game-winner.

Quotes of the Game
Head Coach Eric Bell
On the game:
"I was impressed that we were able to play 105 minutes and play pretty solid soccer the entire time. I'm pleased with the performance overall for the entire game. Tara Smith coming away with the goal to help us win the game was a credit to her and the hard work she has put in over the last year and a half. I'm very happy for her."

On the score not reflecting how the team played: "I thought we played awesome. We created a lot of scoring opportunities and the ball the lion's share of the time. I thought our defending was spot on. They didn't have a lot chances. Overall, it was a very good performance in all three phases of the game."
