Sept. 26, 2003

Final Stats

Fort Worth, Texas - Amy Van Zandt picked up her fifth goal, leading the Frogs to their second Conference USA victory in three tries. The Horned Frogs made a late first-half goal stand-up en route to the victory. Katie Buchanan picked up her second shutout of the season for TCU. With the victory, the Frogs surpassed last year's conference win total.

TCU had an early chance to take the lead, but Katie Bissen stopped Jessi Moore's point-blank shot. Elizabeth Walsh set Moore up for the one-timer, but Moore shot it into Bissen's chest for the save. But for most of the first half, the Marquette Golden Eagles controlled the game, outshooting the Frogs five to three.

Goalkeeper Katie Buchanan came up large, making two saves to keep the Eagles off the scoreboard. Late in the half, the Eagles took a corner kick that was deflected to a wide-open Michelle Martin. Martin took aim, only to see Buchanan knock it away out of danger.

Late in the half, the Frogs started getting some chances. Moore fed a pass over to Kim Thompson streaking down the left side, but Thompson shot high and wide. The Frogs finally hit paydirt with 3:40 remaining in the half. Cara Toulouse kicked a ball off of a Marquette defender that deflected to Van Zandt. Bissen came out to challenge the ball, but Van Zandt one-timed it to left side and into the back of the net for her team-leading fifth goal of the season. The Frogs kept the pressure on for the final three minutes of the half, but couldn't find the net and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

The Frogs put the pressure on in the second half, picking up a great scoring opportunity early in the second half. Moore found herself open with only the goalkeeper to beat. In a one-on-one with Bissen, Moore took the shot, but Bissen made a great save, keeping it a one-goal game.

The Frogs dodged a bullet late in the second half, as Marquette tried to start a rally. With a lot of congestion in the box, the Golden Eagles Ashley George took a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar, helping the Frogs hold onto the slim lead. In all, Buchanan made two saves, preserving the shutout for the Frogs.

The Frogs record improves to 4-4-1 with the win and ups their C-USA record to 2-1. TCU will host another conference foe, Saint Louis on Sunday at Garvey-Rosenthal in a 1:00 start.
