Oklahoma Women's Soccer Stops TCU 2-0
Oct. 4, 2002
NORMAN, Okla. - The Oklahoma women's soccer team scored on a penalty kick in the fourth minute of play and never looked back in a 2-0 win over TCU at John Crain Field on Friday evening. The Sooners (9-2-0) notched their seventh-straight home win and boosted their record to 13-1-1 in Norman over the past two seasons. TCU fell to 2-7-4 after being shut out for the fifth time this season.
Oklahoma senior forward Krissy Dawson booted in the Sooners' first goal on a penalty kick at the 3:05 mark after a Horned Frog defender dropped junior forward Logan Womack in the penalty area. The score was Dawson's seventh of the season and gave the Sooners an early 1-0 lead.
In the 35th minute, OU's freshmen connection from Tulsa hooked up for the second score of the night. Midfielder Lauren MacIver crossed the ball to Becky Nelson, who punched it in off TCU goalkeeper Christina Bobb to give the Sooners an insurance goal. The second half was scoreless, and the game ended in the 2-0 score. TCU was able to manage just one shot attempt in the game's final 45 minutes.
The Sooners totaled 19 shots on the evening, with five on goal. Meanwhile, TCU had four shots but did not force Oklahoma goalkeeper Catherine Wade to make any saves. Bobb, in her second start of the season for the Horned Frogs, registered three saves.
TCU returns home and also gets back to Conference USA play on Friday, Oct. 11 when the Horned Frogs host Southern Miss at 3:00 p.m.
