Laura Greenberg Leads Frogs To 3-0 Win Over Houston
Oct. 8, 2004
Fort Worth, Texas - The TCU Horned Frogs dominated from start to finish as they picked up their third conference victory of the season Friday afternoon at Garvey-Rosenthal. Laura Greenberg scored twice to lead the Frogs to a 3-0 victory over the Houston Cougars. Lindsay White continued her outstanding play in goal as she picked up her second shutout in three games, making three saves.
The chances came early and often for TCU in the first half. Just four minutes into the contest Kelly Potysman sent a deep pass down the field. Greenberg tracked it down and fed it to a waiting Jessi Moore. Moore's shot sailed just wide.
The Frogs didn't stop there. With 27 minutes to go in the half, Moore found herself with a wide-open angle shot. Cougar goalkeeper Nicole Oliver needed every inch of her 5-10 frame to keep the game scoreless. Three minutes later Bjarnvieg Birgisdottir took a shot that skimmed just over the top of the crossbar.
TCU finally capitalized in the 23rd minute. Greenberg picked up a long pass and fed it over to Moore. On a give-and-go, Moore fed the ball back to Greenberg who beat Olive and shot it into the empty net to give the Frogs a 1-0 lead.
The Frogs kept pouring on the offense as Moran Lavi found herself with a great chance off of a Moore corner kick. Lavi took the side-angle shot that went straight into the gut of Oliver.
Greenberg connected again in the 43rd minute on a pass from Sarah Linden. Linden received the feed from Moore and put it right at the foot of Greenberg, who blasted it high over the keeper's head.
Houston's best chance in the half came 16th minute as Sarah Fisher took a shot that White knocked over the back of goal and out of danger.
The second half was not nearly as entertaining as the first, but the Frogs were able to pick up another goal to put the game out of reach for the Cougars. Houston outshot the Frogs 8-5 in the period.
Angie Nickens picked up her second goal of the season as she blasted a 37-foot shot over the head of the goalkeeper for the 3-0 lead.
Houston's leading scorer, Nikki Hawkins tried to spoil the shutout as she took a header off of a corner kick. Her shot rang off the crossbar and bounced straight down without going over the line.
In all, TCU outshot the Cougars 19-12, including a 10-3 advantage in shots on goal.
TCU improves to 5-7 overall and 3-2 in C-USA action. They return to action on Sunday afternoon as Rice comes to town. Match time is set for 1:00 p.m.
