Fort Worth, Texas - A dominating second-half performance by the TCU Horned Frog women's soccer team lifted the Frogs to a 2-0 conference victory over Southern Miss on Friday at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium. Jessi Moore (Grapevine, Texas) and Ashley Fortune (Bothell, Wash.) each connected to lead the Frogs to victory.

In the first half, the teams played to a scoreless tie, but it was not without its share of fireworks. Both teams had their chances, but couldn't capitalize as the goalkeepers came up huge. The Golden Eagles had a great chance with 16 minutes remaining in the half as Kay Beth Costilow found herself with just goalkeeper Katie Buchanan(Plano, Texas) to beat, but shanked the ball and it glanced off the far post and out of harms way. Just a couple minutes later, Sarah Brennan broke free of the TCU defense but sent her shot high over the goal, keeping the game scoreless. Buchanan's only save of the half came against Southern Miss's leading scorer Carly Barkley who shot the ball right into the gut of Buchanan

TCU had the best chance of the game, but came away empty handed thanks to the defense of the Golden Eagles. With five minutes left in the half, Moore took a shot that was blocked away by Eagle goalkeeper Anna Snyder, but waiting for the rebound was Elizabeth Walsh (Dallas, Texas), who had the go-ahead goal at her feet. Walsh took the shot only to see a Golden Eagle defender make a kick save on the ball ticketed for the lower right-hand corner. The Frogs put three shots on goal, but Snyder was equal to the task, making all three stops.

The second half was all TCU as they outshot their opponent 13-1, including 8-1 in the shots on goal category. The Frogs had many opportunities to pick up an early goal in the half, but Snyder was there to make the stop. The first chance in the second half, saw Amy Van Zandt (Fort Worth, Texas) take a shot that was blocked out to a waiting Fortune, but Fortune mishit the ball allowing Snyder to make the save.

TCU finally hit paydirt in the 64th minute as Moore connected for her fifth goal of the season. Walsh came streaking down the right side of the field and fed a pass to Van Zandt, who in turn deflected it to a wide-open Moore, who buried it in the lower left-hand corner, giving the Frogs the 1-0 lead. The Frogs kept pouring on the offense and got the insurance goal four minutes later.

TCU earned a corner kick that was taken by Van Zandt. Van Zandt fed the ball to the goal box where it deflected off of Karissa Hill (Mansfield, Texas) and right to the foot of Fortune, who one-timed it past Snyder for her second goal of the season. TCU's defense never let up as they allowed only the one shot on goal that came with the clock winding down at the end of the game.

Overall, TCU outshot the Golden Eagles by a total of 20-8 and Buchanan made two saves to pick up her third shutout of the seasonand Snyder made nine saves for Southern Miss.

With the win, the Frogs improve to 7-6-1 overall and 5-1-0 in Conference USA action. TCU returns to the pitch on Sunday to face league-leading Tulane. Game time is set for 1:00 at Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.
