Soccer Celebrates 2016 Season

FORT WORTH – The TCU women’s soccer team gathered Saturday night to pay tribute to an historical 2016 campaign.
The 2016 campaign provided lots of fantastic memories for the coaching staff, players and fans as it earned its first-ever berth in the NCAA Tournament. In addition to earning a bid, Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium was selected as a first-round host.
Head coach Eric Bell and staff presented Big 12 awards to the athletes as well as naming program award winners. Attendees were also treated to a video highlighting TCU’s historical season.
Team award winners included Lauren Sajewich, Allison Ganter, Tara Smith and Sarah Riley.
Sajewich was voted by her teammates as the Team MVP in addition to being the Defensive MVP. The senior appeared in and started every game of the season. She tallied a goal and two assists to bring to a close an impressive career in the Purple and White.
Ganter was named the Offensive MVP after leading the team with a career-high nine goals and 21 points. She started just four games while appearing in all 21 contests. Four of her nine goals were game-winners.
Smith was tabbed the Most Improved Player by her peers. She played in all 21 games as a true freshman. She registered a pair of assists in 625 minutes of playing time.
Riley earned the Michael Decker Award, given to the most spirited team member. She appeared in just three games on the season, but her infectious spirit along the sidelines was noticed in all 21 games.
The evening also included a tribute to the seven departing seniors. They group of Audrey Brook, Shannon Coffer, Courtney Forte, Brittany Little, Meghan Murphy, Michelle Prokof and Lauren Sajewich have left a lasting legacy on the program.
