2016 Soccer Schedule
FORT WORTH - TCU head soccer coach Eric Bell announced the 2016 soccer schedule. The slate of contests features 10 home matches and seven road contests.
“We are very excited about the schedule,” said Bell. “I think we have some very good teams that are coming to town. It’s a competitive schedule. It will set us up nicely for our preparation going into the Big 12 schedule.”
For the seventh straight season, TCU will open its regular season schedule away from home. A three game road trip to begin the season starts Friday, Aug. 19 at Maryland followed by a Sunday, Aug. 21 tilt at Navy. The road swing concludes Sunday, Aug. 28 at Lamar.
“We’ve got one of the best fan bases in the country and we love playing here at Garvey-Rosenthal. The people come out from the community and campus and support us in a good way. That’s always a positive thing to have. We look forward to playing in front of our fans. Hopefully, we continue packing the stands and creating a home field atmosphere.”
TCU’s 10-game home slate kicks off with a five-game homestand. The Frogs’ home opener is set for Sept. 2 against Illinois. Texas Southern will head to Fort Worth on Sept. 4. A meeting with 2015 NCAA participant Washington State is set for Friday, Feb. 9. TCU will host Oral Roberts Sunday, Sept. 11 before concluding the homestand Friday, Sept. 16 against Austin Peay.
“The Big 12 is always tough. The league is quite competitive and we are looking to do well in the league just like everyone else. I think there are going to be some very good games in our league. One goal is usually the difference between winning or losing in this league so hopefully our non-conference portion of our schedule prepares us for the rigors of the Big 12.”
Big 12 play for the Horned Frogs begins on the road as TCU travels to Oklahoma on Friday, Sept. 23.
TCU’s final non-conference contest comes Sunday, Sept. 25 at Garvey-Rosenthal against SMU.
The first home Big 12 match is set for Sept. 30 when Kansas heads to Fort Worth. From there, TCU will play three straight league games on the road starting Friday, Oct. 7 at Iowa State. The following week, TCU will head to Baylor on Friday, Oct. 14 before concluding the road trip at Oklahoma State on Oct. 16.
TCU closes out the regular season with three straight home matches beginning Friday, Oct. 21 against 2015 NCAA quarterfinalist West Virginia. Another 2015 NCAA participant Texas Tech heads to town on Oct. 23. The regular season concludes Friday, Oct. 28 against Texas.
The Big 12 Tournament returns to Kansas City for the fourth straight year. The tournament kicks off with the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Nov. 2 followed by the semifinals on Friday, Nov. 4. The championship game is slated for Sunday, Nov. 6. All contests will be played at Swope Soccer Village in Kansas City, Kan.
