Alvarado Participates in Training Camp

Aug. 14, 2017

FORT WORTH – Freshman Emily Alvarado was invited to take part in a training camp with Mexico’s U20 National Team. She spent the previous 10 days working out with the club in Mexico and Oklahoma.

The camp gave national team coaches a glimpse a possible players for the upcoming CONCACAF Women’s U20 Championship. The World Cup qualifier will take place in Trinidad and Tobago January 18-28, 2018. The top three teams in the tournament will earn a berth in the 2018 U20 World Cup set to take place in France from Aug. 7-26.

Alvarado trained with the team for two days in Mexico before traveling with the squad for a three-match tour through Oklahoma. The squad played friendly matches against Northern Oklahoma, Oral Roberts and Tulsa.

The El Paso, Texas, native is no stranger to representing Mexico on the international stage. She helped the team qualify for the 2016 FIFA U20 Women's World Cup and was the youngest member to represent Mexico in the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup in Canada. Alvarado was the starting goalkeeper for Mexico in the 2014 U17 FIFA Women's World Cup and 2014 CONCACAF U17 World Cup Qualifiers and was part of the first team ever to win a CONCACAF tournament for Mexico Women's Soccer.

Alvarado traveled back to campus on Sunday where she will return to preseason preparations for the upcoming 2017 soccer season. The opening game of the season is slated for Aug. 18 against ULM at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
