Sept. 17, 2013
FORT WORTH - TCU freshman goalkeeper Shannon Coffer has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week for her performance in two matches last week. The honor is the first of her career and the second for TCU this season.
Coffer appeared in a relief role at SMU last Thursday. Coffer played the final 36 minutes, allowing a goal on two shots. She earned the start on Sunday against a 7-0-0 Arkansas squad that was ranked No. 25. In the Horned Frogs' match-up with the Razorbacks, she faced seven shots on goal and stopped six. Arkansas took 15 shots toward the net and earned six corner kicks. TCU knocked off Arkansas 2-1 in double overtime.
For the two games last week, Coffer tallied a 78 percent save percentage, stopping seven of nine shots on goal while playing 136 minutes in goal.
TCU will wrap up a three-game homestand this weekend with its final two non-conference tilts. Friday will see 2012 NCAA Tournament participant Denver come to town. Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
