Two Soccer Signees Earn National Team Spot

Oct. 26, 2016

FORT WORTH -- A pair of incoming TCU women's soccer players have earned a spot on their country's U-20 World Cup squad. Tayla Christensen has been named to the New Zealand squad, while Emily Alvarado will represent Mexico.

Christensen, a forward from Hamilton, New Zealand, will be making her third appearance in a World Cup event. She has previously participated in the U-17 2012 and 2014 World Cup. Christensen was a key cog in helping New Zealand secure its spot in the 2016 U-20 World Cup.

Alvarado is a highly-decorated goalkeeper from El Paso, Texas. She has played for Mexico's full national team as well as her age group. She was the youngest member of the 2015 Mexico World Cup squad. Alvarado played a big part in helping Mexico qualify for the U-20 World Cup. She also served as the starting goalkeeper in the 2014 U-17 World Cup.

The duo were part of TCU's 2016 recruiting class, but due to national team commitments had to delay the start of their collegiate careers. Both will join the team in the spring and be freshmen on the 2017 squad.
