TCU Faces Texas in Semifinals

SAN ANTONIO - The TCU women's soccer team continues their run in the Big 12 Championships Friday night when they face off against Texas. Match time at Blossom Soccer Complex is set for 5:30 p.m.

FOLLOWING THE FROGS
For the first time this season, the Horned Frog soccer match will be heard on KTCU 88.7 FM. Chris Blake will have the call for TCU. Additionally, fans wishing to watch the action live on the Internet can log on to Big12Sports.com to watch a live stream of the match.

HOW THEY GOT HERE
TCU scored twice on Bobbi Clemmer corner kicks to become the first eight-seed to upset a No. 1 seed in the Big 12 Championships since 2003. The Frogs used goals by Monica Alvarado and Kelly Johnson to hand No. 14 West Virginia a 2-0 loss. Vittoria Arnold made six saves to record her seventh shutout of the season.

Texas got a pair of goals from Kelsey Shimmick to send Oklahoma packing in the first match of the Big 12 Championships. The Longhorns defeated the Sooners by a 3-0 score. In goal, Abby Smith needed to make just two saves to earn the shutout.

INSIDE THE MATCH-UP
NO. 8 TCU HORNED FROGS

TCU is qualifying for a conference tournament for the 11th time in program history and the second straight year. The Horned Frogs qualified for the Big 12 Conference Tournament as the No. 8 seed. The Frogs are led offensively by Monica Alvarado (7 goals; 1 assist). Vittoria Arnold leads the team in goal. She has seven shutouts and ranks second in the Big 12 in saves with 97.

NO. 4 TEXAS LONGHORNS
Texas finished 4-4 in the league. The Longhorns started 4-1 in league play but dropped three straight to close the regular season, two of which have come in overtime. Goal scoring is done by committee as no one has more than five goals (Sharis LaChappelle) on the season. In goal, Abby Smith has taken over and started 11 matches. She has a 0.70 GAA and six shutouts.

THE LAST TIME
TCU defeated Texas 1-0 in Fort Worth on Oct. 26 to earn its lone win in conference play this season. Kelly Johnson provided the lone goal in the match in the 18th minute on an assist by Ashley Jones. Vittoria Arnold made two saves in the match.
