TCU goes 2-0 on Day 1 in Phoenix
March 4, 2017
PHOENIX -- The TCU beach volleyball team notched a pair of victories Friday to open the 2017 season at the Grand Canyon Beach Tournament with a 5-0 victory over Colorado Mesa and a 4-1 win over Loyola Marymount.
"I am happy with the level we played at all day, and I think they all showed that we were pretty consistent," TCU beach coach Hector Gutierrez said. "All five of our teams were competitive and that's what we need. We showed a good level of play, and I think we stepped up as a team."
The Horned Frogs (2-0) are back in action Saturday at 10 .m. CT when they meet No. 12 Grand Canyon before closing out first-week action at noon with the University of New Mexico.
"It's going to be tough. GCU had a good team, and it will be harder for us," Gutierrez said. "They are at home and they are ranked, so we have nothing to lose. UNM has a good team and they showed they can be competitive. It will be a good day for us to see where we are at."
The Horned Frogs are now 2-0 all-time against CMU, and 1-0 all-time against LMU. TCU and GCU will meet for the first time, while the Horned Frogs hold a 1-0 all-time advantage over New Mexico.
A recap of all the matches will be available on GoFrogs.com, following the completion of the competitions on each day. The matches can also be followed on Twitter @TCUBeachVB.
