Beach: TCU toppled by Hawaii, Pepperdine

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. -- The No. 20 TCU beach volleyball team opened the East Meets West Challenge Saturday at Manhattan Beach Pier with 5-0 losses to No. 3 Hawaii and No 1 Pepperdine.

The Horned Frogs (3-6), who are playing the top four teams in the nation in consecutive matches for the second time in school history, wrap up play at the Challenge Sunday with No. 2 USC (3 p.m. CT) and No. 4 UCLA (5 p.m. CT). USC leads the all-time series with TCU, 1-0, while the Frogs and the Bruins will be meeting for the first time in school history.

Against Hawaii, Laurel Weaver/Carley Kan defeated Jillian Bergeson and Jaelyn Greene 21-17, 21-13; Ka'iwi Schucht/Emily Maglio beat Cassie House and Haven Hill 21-16, 22-20; Morgan Martin/Lea Monkhouse defeated Molly Scheel and Hannah Rogers (TCU) 21-9, 21-9; Amy Ozee/Ari Homayun beat Avery Arellano and Jensyn Bledsoe 21-15, 21-10; and Hannah Zalopany/Paige Dreeuws defeated Claire Doyle and Jordan Westendorff 21-18, 21-8.

Against top-ranked Pepperdine, Brook Bauer/Madalyn Roh defeated House/Hill 23-21, 21-19; Deahna Kraft/Corrine Quiggle beat Bergeson/Greene 21-10, 21-10; Heidi Dyer/Gigi Hernandez beat Bledsoe/Scheel 21-17, 21-14; Skylar Caputo/Alexis Filippone beat Arellano/Rogers 21-14, 21-10; and Maddie Dilfer/Jordan Ferrari defeated Westendorff/Doyle 21-13, 21-19.
