FORT WORTH, Texas – Playing in its third straight top-15 match-up, the TCU beach volleyball team battled hard but came up short to No. 7 Arizona with a 4-1 loss in the final match of the Horned Frogs Challenge in Fort Worth on Saturday.

“Playing these three teams this weekend means a lot,” head coach Hector Gutierrez said. “The girls can get a lot of confidence from this weekend. They know now the level that we need to play to beat the better ranked schools. I think all the girls realize what it takes now to beat a ranked team and beat really good teams and hopefully we learn a lesson from these matches and move on and keep working hard.”

TCU (7-6) went point-for-point with the Wildcats (7-6) in the opening set of matches. Arizona went up 1-0 with a win on court two, but the Frogs got into a third-set battle for the other point. Despite an early lead, Arizona was able to come back and take the court for a 2-0 lead in the match.

The Wildcats were able to clinch the match with straight-set wins on courts one and three, before TCU scored its first point of the match. In her final match on the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts, senior Shane Peters paired up with Claire Doyle to down Halli Amaro and Brooke Burling, 21-19, 21-19, to end the match.

TCU will now hit the road for Irvine, Calif., for the Irvine Valley College Tournament on Sunday, March 26 as they are set to face host Irvine Valley College, No. 5/5 Hawaii and No. 19 Stanford.

“Hopefully we recover quick,” Gutierrez said. “We scheduled these matches because we have a young team and we need to compete a lot and they need to experience these matches. Once again, we go there tomorrow with nothing to lose and a lot to learn. We will keep pushing ourselves until the last point.”

A recap of all the TCU matches will be available on GoFrogs.com, following the completion of the competition. Live updates of the TCU matches can also be found by following TCU beach volleyball on Twitter (@TCUBeachVB).
