Beach: TCU splits with No. 8 LSU, JSU

BATON ROUGE, La. — The TCU beach volleyball team wrapped up the first day of the Battle on the Bayou hosted by LSU on Saturday with a 5-0 victory over Jacksonville State to finish at 1-1.
The Horned Frogs were originally scheduled to play three matches Saturday, but due to inclement weather, the match with New Orleans was canceled and it will not be rescheduled.
In the second of two matches of the day, the Horned Frogs swept the Gamecocks in the first-ever meeting between the two schools, giving TCU its fourth win in its last seven matches.
Hannah Rogers and Avery Arellano notched TCU’s first point in the match with a 21-11, 21-8 win over Grace Jarnagin/Bethany Randall, and Jordan Westendorff and Brooke Sassin, who are 12-8 as a duo, followed with a 21-14, 21-16 win over Maddie Cloutier/Ashley Clingan.
Leading 2-0, Molly Scheel and Jensyn Bledsoe dispatched Hailey Hughes/Shayla Schmidt 21-15, 21-9, while Jillian Bergeson and Jaelyn Greene beat Hannah Kirk/Kaylie Milton 21-5, 21-15, and Haven Hill and Cassie House closed out the sweep with the 21-12, 21-14 victory over Katie Will/Sadie Anderson.
Against nationally ranked LSU in the first match of the day, Westendorff and Sassin defeated Riley Young/Maddie Ligon 21-13, 20-22, 15-13. With her two wins Saturday, Westendorff leads the team with 15 victories, while House, Hill, Bledsoe and Sassin have 12 wins each.
TCU will close out the regular season Sunday with an 8 a.m. match with Houston Baptist and a noon meeting with No. 11 Georgia State in the third meeting of the year between the two teams.
