April 22, 2017

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- The TCU beach volleyball team closed out the regular season Saturday with a pair of 5-0 victories over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and Texas A&M-Kingsville.

With the wins, the 14th-ranked Horned Frogs finish the season 18-8. Now, TCU will play the waiting game to see if it earns a bid to the NCAA Championship May 5-7 in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The bids for the eight-team championships will be announced later in the month.

The Horned Frogs capped the regular season as winners of their last three and 10 of their last 11.

"It was great to come here and get two wins after being off for a couple of weeks," TCU beach coach Hector Gutierrez said. "We started off a little slow, but after the first sets, they stepped it up and pushed themselves a little more. The end result was good."

Jaelyn Greene and Amy Neal moved to 21-5 on the season with two more wins Saturday, while Jillian Bergeson and Shane Peters improved to 9-4.

TCU opened the day, by dispatching the Javelinas in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Two of the five matches went three with Bergeson and Peterson holding off Gabby Atchley and Kyra Henderson 19-21, 21-13, 21-19 and Jordan Terral and Ariah Palter beating Kat Evans and Male Sowa 20-22, 23-21, 15-10.

In moving to 3-0 all-time against the Islanders and 2-0 in 2017, Terral and Palter edged Kristyn Nicholson and Morgan Williams 17-21, 21-4, 15-4, and Arellano and Doyle also needed three sets to beat Kelsey Felux and Claire Karsten 21-12, 16-21, 15-5.
