Final Stats

FORT WORTH, Texas – For the first time in program history, the TCU beach volleyball team scored a victory over a ranked opponent, as the Horned Frogs upset No. 10 LSU, 3-2, in the final of three matches played on the first day of Battle of the Bayou at the Mango’s Beach Volleyball Courts in Baton Rouge, La.

Despite multiple weather delays throughout the day, the Horned Frogs (18-7) faced their sixth ranked opponent of the season in the Tigers (20-9) and scored three victories along with the exhibition match win to cap off a 2-1 start to the tournament.

TCU opened action in Baton Rouge by facing Houston Baptist for the third time this season with the Frogs scoring its third 5-0 sweep of the Huskies. In the team’s second match, the Frogs could not hold off a tough Tulane (19-15) who took four wins in straight sets to take the match victory, 4-1.

Only one pair went 3-0 on the day with Ariah Palter and Molly Scheel moving up to 20-4 on the season and extending their winning streak to six consecutive matches. Olivia Canales and Shane Peters moved up to the top position for the second straight weekend with the duo scoring two wins on Saturday including one in the win over LSU. Sarah Grantham and Sierra Kile were also undefeated on day one of action, as the two picked up two straight set wins in the exhibition matches played against Houston Baptist and LSU.

Quotes from the Matches
Head Coach Erik Peterson
Opening Statement
“I think the big thing for us today was the test of our adversity and how we could adapt and overcome. We had significant weather delays for us so a lot of the day was spent in limbo. I think we really persevered very well and we did a really good job of taking care of ourselves in the down time. Sometimes down time can get away from you and we did a really good job of preparing for the three matches that we played today.”

On the win over LSU
“To go out and beat No. 10 LSU on the road at their place is a completely unbelievable feeling. Overall, the energy level on all courts top to bottom from all the teams was unbelievable. The support that they had from each other while they were out there playing was unbelievable. It is huge to see where we have come from the beginning of season to this last weekend. For us, the positives from this match was that we were able to go out and compete at such a high level and really work on getting them out of system, be able to transition and score points and side out at a pretty high level.”
