FORT WORTH -- The TCU beach volleyball team wrapped up its fall slate on a gorgeous afternoon Sunday with an exhibition match with Houston Baptist, and second-year beach coach Hector Gutierrez is happy with the team's progress.

"I think we are where we want to be," he said. "We have been working on a lot of things, and I'm pretty happy with the outcome of the fall. The girls have been working hard."

Most importantly, Gutierrez saw improvement against Houston Baptist from their first scrimmage of the fall last week at Gulf Shores, Alabama, with such teams at LSU, FSU, Georgia State, and Tulane.

"We were better today than the last time we played, and that makes sense," he said. "We had more rhythm and the second competition is always better because you have already played and you have the feeling of playing better because you have more confidence."

TCU freshman Jordan Westendorf saw improvement as well.

"In practice this week we focused on the things we didn't do well at Gulf Shore," she said. "All of the drills in practice were based on the weaknesses we had there and we improved a lot today with our decision-making."

The Horned Frogs now set their sights on the spring season.

"We have been working really hard and all these things we are doing -- the scrimmages -- are in preparation for the spring," Westendorf said.

Last year, the Horned Frogs posted an 18-8 record and finished 13th in the final poll.

"Last year, people didn't know us or know what to to expect, and now they know we are getting better, so that's exciting," sophomore Claire Doyle said.
