TCU Beach Adds Two Signees

FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU beach volleyball coach Hector Gutierrez has announced the addition of Brooke Sassin and Kristy Wieser to the 2017 class, bringing the total to four.

Sassin and Wieser, who are both graduate transfers, join freshmen Jordan Westendorf and Hannah Rogers, who signed National Letters of Intent last December, in Gutierrez’s first signing class.

Brooke Sassin, San Antonio, Texas

San Antonio Reagan HS/Kansas State

HS/prior college

Played three seasons of indoor volleyball at Kansas State where she was an All-Big 12 second team honoree as a senior …. Lettered in volleyball for three years at San Antonio's Ronald Reagan High School, playing for head coach Mike Carter ... Earned multiple tournament MVP honors and was awarded all-district and all-state honors as a senior ... Helped guide the Rattlers to a 42-3 record in her senior campaign as the team won the district championship and reached the regional quarterfinals ... Tallied 462 kills, 300 digs and 40.0 blocks as a senior ... Piled up a career-best 482 kills, 239 digs and 47 blocks on her way to all-state honors as a junior ... Starred in track during her prep career as a long jump and high jump specialist.

Kristy Wieser, Lincoln, Nebraska

Lincoln Pius X HS/Chattanooga

HS/prior college/juniors

Played three seasons of indoor volleyball at Chattanooga where she was a two-time All-Southern Conference first-team selection … An all-state middle hitter at Lincoln Pius X High School ... helped the Thunderbolts to the Class B state championship in 2011 ... earned all-state honorable mention status as a junior and followed with all-state honors as a senior ... helped Pius to a Class A state tournament appearance in 2012 … lettered in track & field and tennis ... Academic All-State selection for both volleyball and tennis ... as a senior, tied for fourth in the high jump at the state championships … played club ball for the Nebraska Juniors ... led the Nebraska Juniors to qualify for the USA Junior Nationals in the spring of 2013.

Gutierrez on Wieser:

“She’s going to give us more presence on the net. We need to be a bit more physical this year, and Kristy is what we we're looking for. We’re excited to see how she develops as a beach player.”
