TCU Swimming and Diving Routs Louisville
Nov. 1, 2002
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - TCU's swimming and diving teams combined to win 18-of-24 events en route to a pair of routs over Conference USA-foe Louisville. The Horned Frog men topped the Cardinals 123-96 while the Lady Frogs posted a 123-100 triumph at Crawford Pool. The victories were the first of the season for both squads as the men opened the season 1-0 and the women upped their record to 1-1.
Louisville opened the men's side of the meet by taking first and third place in the 500-yard medley descendo relay to grab an early 13-4 lead. However, the Frogs responded by the final 11 swimming events on the men's side to cruise to the victory.
Leading the way for TCU were sophomores Craig Chapman (San Antonio, Texas/Robert E. Lee) and Scott McCure (Richardson, Texas/J.J. Pearce), each with a pair of individual wins. Seniors Byron Coyle (Mooresville, N.C./S. Iredell/Indian River C.C.) and Kyle Nunez (Kingwood, Texas/Kingwood/Western Kentucky) chipped in individual and relay top times in the Horned Frog victory.
On the women's side, the Frogs led wire-to-wire to claim the victory. Freshman Jennifer Antisdale (Sammamish, Wash./Skyline) was the lone Horned Frog to post multiple individual wins, placing first in the 300 IM (3:23.69) and the 300 freestyle (2:56.56).
Juniors Erin Irons (Midland, Texas/Midland) and Liz Proffitt (Crystal Lake, Ill./Palantine/Indian River C.C.) added an individual and relay top time, while sophomore Aimee Moreau (Kenner, La./St. Martin's Episcopal) posted an individual triumph as well as helping TCU to two relay wins.
"Tonight was a great way to start a challenging weekend," TCU head coach Richard Sybesma said. "Louisville came out ready to compete and we rose to the occasion."
The challenging weekend for the Frogs continues Saturday when they will take on both Louisville and fellow C-USA rival Cincinnati. The meets begin at 11 a.m. (EST).
