Women's Tennis Team Tops Baylor

FORT WORTH, Texas - The 26th-ranked TCU women's tennis team (4-0, 2-0 C-USA) topped no. 45 Baylor, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at the indoor courts of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The win over the Bears is the first for the Frogs since April 5, 1997 when TCU won 5-4. Baylor is now 2-4 overall and 1-0 in Big 12 action.
In doubles action, junior Paty Aburto and senior Rosa Perez topped Vida Mulec and Anna Moncolova, 8-6, at the no. 1 spot. It is the third win of the spring for the 30th-ranked duo. At the second spot, sophomore Karla Mancinas and junior Saber Pierce earned an 8-1 victory against Alison Bradley and Barbora Blahutiakova.
The Frogs picked up four singles wins, all in straight sets. The most impressive win came as 125th-ranked Aburto dropped 45th-ranked Mulec, 6-3, 6-2 at the first position. Pierce earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at no. 2 over Stephanie Balzert, while Perez picked up a 6-4, 7-6(5) victory over Moncolova at no. 3. Mancinas earned the other Frog win at no. 5 in a 7-6, 7-6 battle against Blahutiakova.
The Frogs will travel to Austin for their first road match of the season to take on the 15th-ranked Longhorns of Texas on Tuesday, Feb. 25. The match is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m.
