Women's Tennis Loses 4-3 Heartbreaker to Oklahoma

FORT WORTH, Texas - The 45th-ranked TCU women's tennis team fell in a difficult 4-3 shootout to the No. 33-ranked Sooners of Oklahoma on Friday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The loss puts the Frogs at 2-6 for the season, while OU advances to 6-2.
The Sooners started out hot, winning all three doubles matches en route to the first point of the afternoon. TCU bounced back, though, as senior Paty Aburto, playing No. 1, upset Anda Perianu in straight sets, 6-1, 6-4, to start the singles action. Perianu is ranked No. 4 in the nation in the most recent ITA singles poll. Junior Karla Mancinas picked up the second Frog point as she defeated Bethany Griffin 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.
Oklahoma pulled ahead of TCU with wins at Nos. 3 and 5, but senior Saber Pierce, ranked 89th in the country, topped Jessica Braver at the fourth spot, 7-6, 6-3, to even things at three points apiece. The match came down to a three-set battle between freshman Jenn Chay and Gabby Baker at No. 2. The two traded 6-3 sets and were tied at 3-3 when Baker went on a tear to finish the match with another 6-3 set.

The Frogs next host Tulsa on February 28 at noon at on the public courts of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center, and Purdue on February 29 at 10:30 a.m. on the Bernard "Tut" Bartzen Varsity Courts at the Tennis Center.
